PREGNANCY

welcome to pregnancy! This is the start of an incredible journey.

Pregnancy, also known as gestation, is the time during which one or more offspring ,develops inside a woman.

A multiple pregnancy involves more than one offspring, such as with twins.

Pregnancy can occur by sexual intercourse or assisted reproductive technology.

child birth typically occurs around 40 weeks from the last menstrual period.

Pregnancy is typically divided into three trimesters.
                            1.FIRST TRIMESTER -from 1 week to 12 weeks (1 to 3 months)
                            2.SECOND TRIMESTER- from 13 week to 28 weeks (4 to 6 months)
                            3.THIRD TRIMESTER-from 29 week to 40 weeks (7 to 9 months)

PREMATURE BIRTH /PREEMIES

A premature birth is when a baby is born before 37 completed weeks of pregnancy. A full-term pregnancy is 40 weeks.
Important growth and development happen throughout pregnancy - especially in the final months and weeks. Because they are born too early, preemies weigh much less than full-term babies. They may have health problems because their organs did not have enough time to develop.
Problems that a baby born too early may have include
  • Breathing problems
  • Feeding difficulties
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Developmental delay
  • Vision problems
  • Hearing problems
Preemies need special medical care in a neonatal intensive care unit, or NICU. They stay there until their organ systems can work on their own.
IN THE NEXT POST I SHALL WRITE ON TRIMESTERS
